Hello, I’m Shawna. I'm an Auto-Immune Detective.

I earned a Journalism Degree from the University of Minnesota.

Then spent a decade in Sydney as a copywriter. Ran a boutique writers agency working for direct clients as well as other agencies. Created award-winning work targeting the youth sector in multi-media campaigns for governmental departments.

I moved back to the States in the mid 90's to establish an Art Gallery and co-owned a Furniture store in a booming Colorado resort town. During the 15 years there had the pleasure of creating custom furniture, lighting, complete interiors and residential design while thoroughly enjoying the dramatic and spectacular wilderness areas surrounding Telluride.

Returned to husband’s home near Newcastle with the intent of remodeling his beach shack into an environmentally sensitive and sustainable home. During that process was struck suddenly with unexplained, incapacitating pain, bouts of swelling and an arm that would no longer straighten.

Was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and prescribed Methotrexate (a low level chemotherapy) as the lifelong solution to stopping any further joint degradation.

In the ensuing year and half, specialists were able to diagnose 2 other rare diseases, also auto-immune based.

I made the decision to forego the pharmaceuticals which inhibit the immune system choosing instead to focus on address the cause of the imbalance and support her body nutritionally to stop the progress of those diseases and to ultimately return to the natural balance of good health.

My journey has led me to many fascinating people and natural therapies. I now own the Salt Therapy Centre Newcastle which provides 2 unique therapies: Salt Therapy and Infrared Therapy; which help cleanse your lungs and skin and help with joint pain, muscle recovery and detox heavy metals which is a common factor for most with Auto-Immune conditions. My goal is to awaken the detective in each of us that is required to help us figure out what works, and doesn't work, for our bodies.
